چکیده
Abstract Ultrasonic signal enhancement resulting from constructive interference between direct Rayleigh waves and same reflected by a surface defect is exploited to increase crack identification capabilities of the Gas-Coupled Laser Acoustic Detection (GCLAD) non-contact detection technology. Highlights simulations are provided regarding phenomenon in solid its propagation air, where GCLAD occurs. Experimental campaigns preliminarily performed on bar evidence effect cracks acquired signals. Then, +30% reached plate, implying that defects efficiently scanned moving proximity discontinuity. Since allows monitoring points piece belonging line at once, translation one direction sufficient perform two-dimensional scan, entailing reduction inspection time simple automation interrogation layout compared other traditional or enhancement-based techniques.

Biomedical Photoacoustic Imaging Using Gas-coupled Laser Acoustic Detection
Several detection methods have been explored for photoacoustic and ultrasound imaging of biological tissues. Piezoelectric transducers are commonly used, which require contact with the sample and have limiting bandwidth characteristics. Interferometry detection exhibits improved bandwidth characteristics and resolution, yet generally require complicated optics and the incorporation of a contact...
متن کاملDisplacement and Deflection Sensitivity of Gas-coupled Laser Acoustic Detection
Ultrasound radiated from a surface can change the path of an optical beam, directed through the acoustic field and parallel to the surface, through acousto-optic interaction. Sensing of the beam motion with a position-sensitive detector produces a simple but effective non-contact ultrasound detector, designated Gas-coupled Laser Acoustic Detection, or GCLAD. Recent research has shown that the r...
متن کاملCrack Detection with Wireless Inductively-Coupled Transducers
In earlier work we developed inductive coupling for surface-mounted Lamb wave transducers operating at relatively low frequencies, such as 300 kHz. We now report on similar inductively-coupled transducers at higher (multiple MHz) frequencies. Our investigation was motivated by a particular application, to examine a box girder top flange, using transducers mounted along the flange edge. We emplo...
متن کاملAcoustic Emission Crack Detection in Injection Molding
This paper presents the experimental results regarding acoustic emission signals measured during the injection molding of those standard test specimens commonly used for examining the shrinkage behaviour of various thermoplastic materials. In daily industrial production of different plastic products we often have to deal with various errors that practically occur on the mold primarily as a resu...
متن کاملAdaptive Signal Detection in Auto-Regressive Interference with Gaussian Spectrum
A detector for the case of a radar target with known Doppler and unknown complex amplitude in complex Gaussian noise with unknown parameters has been derived. The detector assumes that the noise is an Auto-Regressive (AR) process with Gaussian autocorrelation function which is a suitable model for ground clutter in most scenarios involving airborne radars. The detector estimates the unknown...
